Apply for housing benefit and council tax support

Are you affected by Universal Credit?

Universal Credit launched on 8 November 2017 and will be rolled out across the district by postcode area. Universal Credit will replace all new claims for the following working-age benefits: Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) and Working Tax Credit.  If you make a new claim for one of the above working-age benefits you will need to claim for it as part of an application for Universal Credit, vs through us. Find out more about Universal Credit.

If you are affected by Universal Credit, you still need to apply to us for local council tax support (affects the amount of council tax you pay).

Here's how:

  • Download and print off a Council tax support claim form
  • Visit our offices in Frog Lane, Lichfield or in Burntwood Library to pick up a claim form.
  • If you need more information or would like us to send you a claim form call the benefits team on 01543 308900.
  • Please remember to pay the correct postage. The council is unable to pay any additional postage costs if you have underpaid and your documents will be returned to the post office. You should write your return address on the reverse of the envelope to ensure your documents can be sent back to you safely.

As soon as you have filled in the form, send it with all the proof required, to the benefits team. If you do not send all the proof with your claim it may be returned to you.
