Conservation

Our conservation specialists consult on planning applications affecting historic buildings and conservation areas and provide urban design advice on planning applications relating to both large and small developments.

They also monitor the condition of the district's heritage which back to 1998 at a national level with the birth of the Historic England's (formerly English Heritage) buildings at risk survey.

We also survey all of the grade II listed buildings in the district which makes up over 90% of all our listed buildings.

The team also review our existing conservation areas and produce documents called Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans and we consider if any new conservation areas could be designated and they maintain and add to our list of locally listed buildings.

Historic England are responsible for producing a report on grade I and II* buildings, conservation areas and scheduled monuments called heritage at risk - find out more
