We’re changing the way we administer council tax support

If you currently receive council tax support, the changes we are making will not change the amount of money you get off your bill.

It will just change how we show the support you get on your council tax bill and account.

Instead of showing as a benefit on your bill, the council tax support we give you will now show as a discount. It will show what band you are placed in and it will reduce your council tax by the percentage reduction you are entitled to.

If you currently receive council tax support we will send you an updated bill in mid-November that will show your support as a discount, as shown below:

*If you are in band 5, nothing will be shown on your bill.

If you get Universal Credit

We will continue to use the information the DWP provides us to ensure your discount is correct. If you stop receiving Universal Credit, you must tell us online.

If you don't get Universal Credit

You must tell us online if you have a change to your financial circumstances as it may affect the discount you get.

Reviews

We will regularly review council tax accounts including the discounts we have awarded which will mean we may contact you from time to time to ask you to upload proof of your income.
