If you have registered for a postal vote, your pack has now been sent and is on its way to your registered address.

If you haven't had yours yet, and you want a replacement postal vote pack (e.g., you are going on holiday before it will reach you), please email elections@lichfielddc.gov.uk with your name, address, contact details, reason for replacement and an image of a valid photo ID. We will contact you when the replacement is ready to collect, from the council office - please bring your ID with you.

If collecting on behalf of someone else, you will need to provide photo identification for you both, together with a signed letter authorising collection.

The easiest way to return your completed postal vote is in your nearest post box, but you can hand deliver it to the council offices during office hours, or at a polling station on election day. If you hand deliver it, you will need to complete a statutory form - our staff will help you with this, so you may have to wait a short while.

The deadline for new postal applications has now passed, however, if you are taken ill or get an unexpected work commitment which will prevent you from attending the polling station, you can apply for an emergency proxy application - a doctor or your employer will need to support your application.

You must show photo ID to vote at polling stations in the general election on 4 July 2024. Common photo IDs that you can use include:

Passport (this doesn't need to be in date, but it needs to be recent enough to look like you)
Driving licence (including provisional license)
Blue badge
Specific travel cards (such as an older person’s bus pass or disabled person’s bus pass)

Councillors are not paid a salary, but receive an annual allowance to reimburse them for time they have spent on council duties and any costs they may incur as a result.

Councillors that hold certain posts, such as chairman, cabinet member or leader of the council, also receive a special responsibility allowance.

All councillors also:

get an allowance to cover IT and office expenses they may incur whilst carrying out their duties.
are entitled to claim travelling and subsistence expenses when performing council duties.
may claim £25 a night to cover out-of-pocket expenses if they attend a conference approved by the council and stay away from home for one or more nights.

If a councillor has to pay for the care of a dependant (a child under the age of 14, an elderly person aged over 60, a disabled person, or someone with learning difficulties) whilst they are on council duties, and the dependant normally lives with them, they are also able to claim carer's allowance.
