Every premises licensed to sell alcohol must have a designated premises supervisor (DPS) named on the premises licence. A designated premises supervisor (DPS) must hold a personal licence as they are responsible, along with the premises licence holder, for authorising the sale of alcohol at the premises.

To run a sex shop (any premises selling sex toys, books or videos), or a venue where explicit films are shown to members of the public, you may need a licence.

You will need a temporary event notice (TEN) if you want to carry out a licensable activity on unlicensed premises. Licensable activities include, but are not limited to, selling alcohol, supplying alcohol to members of a club and providing regulated entertainment, such as music or plays.

Cafes, restaurants and bars in the district can apply for a temporary pavement licence* to place furniture on the pavement (and certain other types of highway where vehicles are restricted, such as pedestrian zones) to support their recovery following the covid pandemic.

The government has extended the ability to hold a temporary pavement licence until 30 September 2024*.

Universal credit is a government benefit scheme for those who are out of work or on a low income. You can claim whether you're working or unemployed, and you'll usually receive one payment each month.

There are a range of energy grants to support residents who are on a low income.

To get a grant a person with a disability must be living in your home. If so, the owner occupiers, private tenants, or landlords may be eligible for a grant. The financial assistance can help pay for necessary adaptations to the building.

live in supported accommodation
live in temporary council homeless accommodation

If not you will need to apply for Universal Credit.

If the tree you want to work on is protected or in a conservation area, you will need to apply to us before being able to work on the tree.

If you regularly park in Lichfield city centre, you could save hundreds of pounds each year with a parking season ticket for one, six or twelve months. You can choose to park in the following car parks: Birmingham Road (train station), Bus Station, The Friary, Greenhill, Lombard St Lower, Redcourt, Sandford Street, University East or University West.

Blue badges are for drivers or passengers with severe mobility problems and for those who are registered blind. The scheme allows blue badge holders to park close to where they need to go on streets and in council owned car parks.

The Friary multi storey car park in Lichfield City operates an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system. If you are a blue badge holder, you will need to register with us with your badge number and vehicle registration number to enable the system to give you free parking.

You will need to apply to trade on streets in Lichfield District - whether that's a fixed pitch every week (e.g. a burger van), a mobile unit (such as a travelling ice cream van), or an occasional street pitch. You can report a dead animal locally. Please be aware we remove dead animals (wild and domestic) from district council land and adopted highways. We do not remove dead animals from private land (such as driveways, gardens, fields or farmland). This is the responsibility of the landowner.

If you have tried and exhausted all other avenues, you can make a complaint about a neighbour's hedge to us. High hedge complaints cost £600 the fee is non-refundable once the compliant has been submitted.

We will investigate complaints about septic tanks, private treatment plants and private drains if they are causing a public health hazard, and the landowner has not addressed the issue. We do not operate a 24 hour response to drainage complaints.

We investigate complaints about ongoing/repeated noise - if it is affecting you at your home/business property. We respond to complaints between Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm. We do not operate a 24 hour response.

We respond to reports of breaches in relation to building works or changes of use, advertisements, non-compliance with conditions imposed on planning approvals, the felling of protected trees and the removal of hedgerows, works to listed buildings and demolition in conservation areas.

We work with Central Building Control to respond to reports of dangerous structures in the district. If you are reporting a dangerous building out of hours (for example at night or during the weekend), please call the council’s out of hours line on 01527 64252 extension 3316. The out of hours line is hosted by Redditch Borough Council.

Our crews do not finish their collection rounds before 4.30pm, so if you are reporting a missed bin before 4.30pm, we may not have reached you yet. Our crews also have to go to the tip site regularly to empty their wagon - sometimes halfway through a street because their vehicle is full. They will come back to finish the street when they have emptied their vehicle.

Stationary for a considerable time with poor internal and external condition.
Significantly damaged, rundown, unlocked or not roadworthy (flat tyres, missing wheels, broken windows etc).
Vandalised or burned out.
Missing both number plates.

You will be able to report a broken, damaged or missing street nameplate.

We will respond to and pick up fly tipping on district council owned land or adopted highways. We are sorry but we are not responsible for removing fly-tipping from private land. Please contact the landowner directly. We may however investigate and potentially trace the perpetrator of fly tipping on private land.

We maintain district council land and adopted highways across the district. Depending on whether the issue is a danger to the public, we will either send out a crew to address it as soon as possible, or address it when our grounds maintenance team are next in the area. We do not maintain private land - if the issue is on private land, please report it to the land owner.

You will be able to report a litter/dog bin issue.

We are responsible for the emptying/maintenance of litter bins and dog waste bins in our parks and open spaces, city/town centres and in some other on-street locations such as laybys. We also empty some litter and dog bins on behalf of other organisations, such as parish councils.

Depending on the severity of the issue you report, our team will visit to assess the bin/address the issue as soon as possible, and normally within 7 days.

If the bin is broken, the timeframe for repair or replacement will depend on availability of parts and labour.
If the bin is not owned by us, we will report the issue to the owner and request they investigate further and either increase the number of times they empty it, or repair/replace it.

You will be able to report a street cleansing issue.

We will respond to reports of:

Syringes or sharps
Broken glass
Vomit
Litter
Excessive leaf and blossom fall from public land
Roads that require sweeping

We do not mend potholes. This is the responsibility of Staffordshire County Council. Report a pothole on their website.

You can report an issue in a district council owned/maintained toilet. If the issue is in a privately-owned toilet (such as a hotel/shop/restaurant etc), please report it to the building/land owners.

We will remove or cover up graffiti on district council owned land and property. We will also remove or cover up graffiti that is offensive, racist or abusive on privately owned buildings. Any other graffiti is the responsibility of the landowner. Please contact the landowner directly.

We will investigate health and safety concerns about private rented housing, particularly if your landlord is refusing to or has simply not fixed an issue.
