This policy outlines the types of advertising we will and will not accept to ensure that sponsorship packages we agree/advertising we host on various council assets align with our values, maintain public trust, and comply with legal obligations.
It aims to strike a balance between welcoming diverse advertisers and maintaining our council's ethical standards.
Accepted advertising
We welcome advertising that:
- Promotes products, services, or messages that align with public interest and community welfare.
- Supports local businesses, community initiatives, and social causes that reflect our values.
- Complies with relevant UK advertising laws, including the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) guidelines.
Prohibited advertising
We will not accept advertising that:
- Promotes content that is offensive, discriminatory, or inflammatory, including but not limited to material that is racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise discriminatory.
- Encourages violence, illegal activities, or unethical practices.
- Advertises tobacco products, alcohol (where inappropriate), gambling, payday loans, or any other products deemed harmful or contrary to public health initiatives.
- Misleads or provides false information, including deceptive claims or unsubstantiated statements.
- Conflicts with our values, policies, or services, including political, religious, or lobbying content that could cause conflict or bias.
Approval
We reserve the right to approve and reject any sponsorship offer/advertisement request that does not meet these standards or request changes to ensure compliance.
Complaints
We are committed to ensuring that all sponsorship/advertising arrangements comply with this policy. Complaints about any sponsorship offer/advertisement arrangements will be addressed promptly and any breaches of this policy will result in immediate removal of the sponsorship/advertisement.
