We've supported The Fairtrade Foundation in their aim to make Lichfield a Fairtrade City and are delighted that after lots of hard work, on 8 March 2008, they achieved their dream.

BBC news presenter and patron of The Fairtrade Foundation, George Alagiah, led the proceedings, presenting the Fairtrade City certificate to the Mayor of Lichfield. George Alagiah said: "Trust me when I tell you that Fairtrade is working right now, transforming lives and communities."

Fairtrade means growers and producers in developing countries receive a fair and stable price for their products, as well as good working conditions.

Being a Fairtrade City means Fairtrade has the backing of both the district and city councils, Fairtrade products are available in local shops, cafés and restaurants, and many local businesses, schools, public services, churches and voluntary organisations have committed themselves to supporting Fairtrade.

Everyone can support Fairtrade by buying products which carry the Fairtrade mark, choosing to eat at Fairtrade cafés, and encouraging friends and relatives to do the same.
