How to vote by post
Full instructions are provided in your postal vote pack. Please keep your postal vote safe until you are ready to cast your vote.
When you vote remember to:
- vote on your ballot paper in private and make your own decision as to who to choose
- fill in the postal voting statement (attached to envelope A) with your date of birth and signature with a black ballpoint pen if possible - do not detach the postal voting statement from envelope A
- Remember your signature needs to match the signature you put on your postal vote application, or we may reject your vote.
- put the ballot paper in the pocket at the bottom of envelope A
- moisten the yellow seal and press down to secure your ballot paper in the pocket.
- put envelope A (including the postal voting statement) into envelope B with the FREEPOST address showing through the envelope window
- seal envelope B and pop it in your nearest Royal Mail post box
What if I forget to post it in time?
We must receive all postal votes no later than 10pm on polling day.
If you haven't enough time for the Royal Mail to return it to us, you can hand deliver your completed postal vote to the council offices during office hours, or at any polling station on election day.
If you do, you will need to complete a statutory form so you may have to wait a while - particuarly at a polling station, so please be aware and we will be grateful for your patience.
You can hand deliver your own and no more than five other postal votes per election.
If you are a campaigner, you can only hand in your own postal vote, and those of close relatives or people for whom you provide regular care.
Please do not leave your postal vote in any council office post boxes, reception points or a polling station desk without completing a form, otherwise your vote will be rejected.
