Key facts:

We inspect and rate all food businesses in the district in line with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) food hygiene rating scheme. Visit the Food Standards Agency website to find out how scores are calculated.

If you own/run a food business in Lichfield District which is rated 0 - 4 and you wish to improve your rating, you can ask us to carry out a re-rating inspection. We will only carry out a re-rating inspection if you can demonstrate/provide evidence you have taken steps to rectify issues picked up at your last inspection.

The cost of each re-rating inspection is £200 and payment is taken on submission of the request*.

After we receive a re-rating request, provided you have supplied adequate evidence that improvements have been made, we will carry out an unannounced inspection within three months.

We will award the premises a new food hygiene rating score based on the level of compliance found at the time of the re-rating inspection. It is important to note that a business’ rating can go up, down or remain the same following a re-rating inspection. There is no guarantee that a re-rating inspection will result in a higher food hygiene rating.

Alternatively, find out how to appeal your rating (within 21 days of receiving your notification letter) or how you can let customers know why your rating does not reflect the standards at your business.

Please use this form to request a re-rating inspection. Remember to have your credit and debit card handy, as well as detailed information and evidence (you can upload pictures and electronic documents as part of the form) that shows the improvements you have made.
