Why am I no longer getting 100% discount?
If you are working age and were on what is called a 'passported benefit' but have been moved across to universal credit, you may now have to pay something towards your council tax.
Passported benefits include:
- ESA or employment support allowance (income based)
- JSA or job seekers' allowance (income based)
- IS or income support
If you were getting one of these, you would have been automatically entitled to maximum council tax support (i.e. 100% off your council tax bill).
Universal credit is not a passported benefit, and so we must calculate your discount based on your income - i.e. the amount of universal credit you get, plus any other income you receive.
This means you may now have to pay something towards your council tax.
