Lichfield District Council and Cannock Chase District Council are running a joint consultation on the future of the Rugeley Power Station site.

Rugeley Power Station was decommissioned in 2016 and land it occupies, which straddles the border between Cannock Chase District and Lichfield District, offers a great opportunity to redevelop this significant brownfield site. The site is ideally located for a new housing and business development with its links to Rugeley and Lichfield, while being close to open countryside and with easy access to two railway stations.

Current proposals (which are outlined in a draft supplementary planning document for the area - www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/spd) outline redeveloping the land for a minimum of 800 homes and employment use, along with supporting infrastructure, including a school, open space, play facilities and public art.

We now need your views on how the site should be shaped in the future. Your views will be fed into the final Rugeley Power Station Supplementary Planning Document.

When adopted, the Rugeley Power Station Supplementary Planning Document will sit alongside both district councils’ Local Plans planning frameworks, and help inform future development proposals for the site.

To give your views online, visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/spd, to read and comment on the draft document.
