The design code for planned development on the Birmingham Road site is now available to see online, with local residents invited to give their thoughts on the new design document.
The code has been created using the extensive discussions with Lichfield residents during community engagement events by Lichfield District Council and urban designers Create Streets over the past year. Create Streets specialises in working with local communities and residents, using evidence on what is locally liked to create places that are beautiful, sustainable and also popular with residents and neighbours.
Design codes are a set of clear visual ‘rules’ on what can and cannot be done, and how buildings are designed. They can be used to help communities to strongly shape the look and feel of new development.
The code applies only the Birmingham Road Site, which lies opposite Lichfield City station.
Building on the site will have to follow the design code, meaning residents’ design preferences and ideas for the site will play a major role in its development.
