Due to ongoing snowy conditions and icy surfaces, today’s waste and recycling collections have been cancelled. Many roads are unpassable and unsafe, and it is not possible for our crews to operate safely.

The safety of our crews and residents must come first.

This is because although some main roads have been gritted, our crews work primarily on smaller residential streets, which are extremely snowy and slippery. Our refuse collection vehicles are very heavy and carry large loads, and our crews must also manoeuvre heavy bins on foot. With surfaces difficult to assess, there is a high risk of vehicles skidding, crews slipping or falling, or other vehicles sliding into our teams.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We are in contact with all known rough sleepers in the district to encourage them into accommodation during the current weather conditions, as part of our severe weather emergency protocol, which is now active. If you are concerned about a rough sleeper who you feel needs help, please call us on 01543 308000 or outside of office hours call 01527 406643. Find out more about our severe weather protocol.
