A picture of housing.
Residents and developers have provided constructive feedback around future housing, carbon reduction and infrastructure.

We are thanking residents and stakeholders for taking part in the recent consultation on the Local Plan 2043, which received more than 2,500 responses.

The consultation focused on the Issues and Options document—an important consultation to shape how the district will grow and develop over the next two decades. It invited residents to share their views on key topics such as housing, infrastructure, and future land use.

This feedback will directly influence the development of the Local Plan, ensuring it aligns with community priorities and supports the council’s wider LD2050 Strategy.

Both residents and developers took part, and have provided constructive feedback around future housing, carbon reduction and infrastructure.

A key outcome of the consultation showed a preference for more spatially balanced development options, including the proposal of a new settlement. This idea, already outlined in the council’s LD2050 Strategy, aims to alleviate pressure on Lichfield, Burntwood and the district’s villages while ensuring the sustainable growth.

A spokesperson for Lichfield District Council said:

“We are incredibly grateful for the constructive feedback we received from residents.

"Consultations like this are vital to making sure our plans reflect the needs and aspirations of the people who live here. This input will help us shape a Local Plan that creates a stronger, more sustainable district for everyone.”

The Local Plan 2043 is scheduled for adoption by January 2027, and the council has committed to keeping the public informed and involved throughout the process.
