Refurbished tennis courts and the new soft play at Burntwood Leisure Centre.

There will be more for visitors to Burntwood Leisure Centre to enjoy following the installation of a brand-new soft play area for children and the refurbishment of the facility’s tennis courts.

The Active Kids Zone, a soft play with slides, steps, obstacles and building blocks in bright, attractive colours is suitable for children aged between 6 months and ten years of age.

It has been installed by Lichfield District Council in partnership with Microsports which will be managing the facility.

Situated on the ground floor of the leisure centre the soft play will open on Thursday 1 February. There is no need to book, and the charge is £3. Entry will be free over Half Term (12 to 16 February).

The soft play is part of a programme of improvement at Burntwood Leisure Centre, implemented by Lichfield District Council, which also includes the refurbishment of the tennis courts.

These have been resurfaced and temporarily laid out with lines for tennis and netball use. The full painting of the courts will be concluded in the spring.

The courts are free to use for the remainder of January. From then the charge will be £6 for members and £7.50 for non-members per hour, per court.

Bookings can be made online

Lichfield District Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks and Major Projects, Councillor Andy Smith, said:

“The new soft play at Burntwood Leisure Centre will be popular with young children, and their parents, while refurbishing the tennis courts is important as it helps encourage outdoor activity.

“Our teams are working hard to improve leisure facilities across the district and I welcome these latest initiatives.“

Michael Hampson of MicroSports said:

“Together with Lichfield District Council we are delighted and proud to be providing a new soft play at Burntwood Leisure Centre.

“From enhancing motor skills and fostering social interaction to promoting creativity and cognitive growth, Active Kids Zone is designed to be not only a playground, but a holistic and enriching play experience.

“We would also like to invite players to take advantage of the refurbished tennis courts which offer an enhanced fitness facility for users.”
