The Call for Sites runs for eight weeks from 29 January to 25 March.

Lichfield District Council is excited to announce a new campaign aimed at identifying areas of land that may play a vital role in meeting the district’s future development needs.

The commencement of a "Call for Sites" initiative, running for eight weeks from 29 January to 25 March 2024, provides an opportunity for landowners, developers, agents, site promoters, and all interested parties to contribute their valuable insights.

By submitting potential development sites, stakeholders can actively participate in shaping the future of Lichfield District as the council begins the process of formulating a new local plan.

Lichfield District Council is open to a wide range of potential uses for the submitted sites, including:

New Housing: This category encompasses various types of housing, including affordable homes and sites designed to cater to people with specialised housing needs. Sites that can accommodate five or more dwellings to sites for large scale development including new settlements are of particular interest.

Economic Development: Sites for economic growth, such as employment spaces, offices, and retail establishments, are encouraged. Sites offering over 500m2 of floorspace are especially sought after.

Travellers: The council is actively seeking pitches for members of the traveller community to ensure the inclusivity of future development plans.

Lichfield District Council places a strong emphasis on sustainable development. As such, it is particularly interested in brownfield sites and those that can provide opportunities for employment development, as well as sites for travellers.

Submission of a site through the Call for Sites process does not guarantee its allocation within the local plan or the successful acquisition of planning permission.

Councillor Alex Farrell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Local Plan at Lichfield District Council, said:

"We believe that the Call for Sites is a vital step in planning for the future of our district.

“All the sites submitted will be assessed and a schedule, with accompanying information about the submission, will be published on our website. This will help inform the future stages of our new local plan.

“We encourage all stakeholders to engage with us during this process to ensure that the development needs of our community are met effectively and sustainably."
