A fantastic new soft play facility for young children has officially opened today (Thursday 1 February) at Burntwood Leisure Centre.

Active Kids Zone, situated on the ground floor of the leisure centre, features slides, steps, obstacles and building blocks in bright colours and is suitable for children aged between 18 months and ten years of age.

The soft play has been installed by Lichfield District Council in partnership with Microsports which will be managing the facility. There is no need to book, admission is £3 (it’s free this coming half term, 12 to 16 February) and while children are having major soft play fun their parents can enjoy refreshments available from the café in reception.

Today’s opening event was attended by Chasetown Ward councillor Darren Ennis, Boney Hay and Central Ward councillor Diane Evans, Microsports Director Michael Hampson, and Project Manager Katarina Obranovic O’Dell.

Lichfield District Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks and Major Projects, Councillor Andy Smith, said:

“The soft play is a welcome addition to the facilities at Burntwood Leisure Centre and I’m sure it will prove popular with children and parents.

“It’s just one part of a programme of improvement that we are making there for the benefit of users.”

Microsports Director, Michael Hampson, said:

“We are delighted to announce the opening of the soft play at Burntwood Leisure Centre. The facility will enable children aged from 18 months to ten years old to enhance their motor skills, let their imaginations soar and see friendships blossom.

“The design of the area means that it will offer a fantastic introduction into the wide range of activities available throughout the Lichfield District and help positively influence an active healthy lifestyle for both current and future generations.”
