Anyone who enjoys cycling, is thinking about taking it up, or who has not been on a bike for years, is invited to ride the fantastic Hello Velo Street Velodrome when it returns to Lichfield District this weekend.
It is also a great event for spectators watching the excitement of the banked cycle racing and it is free for them and those taking part.
After visiting the district last year Hello Velo, which enables anyone aged 4 and upwards to participate in track cycling for free, is back both on Saturday 29 June, when it will be situated at Beacon Park, Lichfield and Sunday 30 June, when it will be in the grounds of Burntwood Leisure Centre.
A spokesperson for Lichfield District Council said:
“We are delighted that the Street Velodrome is back in the district again. It was a real hit with people of all ages last year.
“One of our key aims is for Lichfield residents to be more active, more often and in different ways and the Street Velodrome provides an exciting opportunity to try something new.
“So come along this weekend and have a go. It is free, fun and there is no need to book.”
The event will run on both days from 11am to 4pm and you can bring your own bike or use the bikes and safety equipment provided by Hello Velo. Cyclists will complete two laps of the track, which features an angled berm at either end connected by two flat straights, followed by a two-lap race.
Experienced Street Velodrome coaches supervise the cycling event which is open to everyone with specially-adapted bikes available to people with physical disabilities.
While offering excitement and races for all ages, the Street Velodrome also attracts community groups and organisations and refreshments will be available to purchase.
