We are calling on local people to support our crackdown on littering from vehicles.

We are calling on local people to support our crackdown on littering from vehicles.

If litter is seen being thrown or dropped from a vehicle, and it is caught on a dashboard camera or by a passenger on a mobile phone, it can now be submitted online to the council’s environmental health officers.

All footage is reviewed and if an offence is identified, officers will either issue a £500 fixed penalty notice or refer the matter to the magistrates’ court where the maximum penalty upon conviction is £2,500.

Footage can be submitted via the QR code or via the Lichfield District Council web page.

Cabinet Member Councillor Alex Farrell said:

“We’re doing all we can to keep Lichfield District clean but really need the help of the public to catch those responsible for litter and fly-tipping.

“The police already offer this for driving offences, but we’re one of the very first councils to introduce this for littering.

“By working together, we can keep Lichfield District looking beautiful and a place where we can be proud to live and work, and one that people want to visit from far and wide”.
