Concerned about a dangerous tree
Dangerous trees on your land
If you are worried a tree is dead, dying or dangerous on your own land, we recommend you contact a tree specialist for advice and support.
We also recommend you:
- find out whether your tree is protected by a TPO or in a conservation area - find out more.
- seek necessary guidance if the tree is home to wildlife or protected species - find out more.
Dangerous trees on private land
We are not responsible for dangerous trees on private land - these are the responsibility of the landowner.
If you are concerned about a privately owned tree, we would first recommend you speak to the landowner if you feel comfortable to do so - your neighbour for example - they may not be aware of the issue and may be grateful you have brought it to their attention.
If the landowner does not take action, please report it to us online or call our customer services team if the tree is posing an imminent danger.
- Call 01543 308000 weekdays, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (not including bank holidays).
- You can also Whatsapp us on 01543 308171 - if you WhatsApp us before 4pm. Monday - Friday (not including bank holidays) we'll get back to you the same day.
- For urgent out of hours assistance, please call 01527 406643 and follow the recorded instructions.
Depending on the circumstances, we may carry out a site visit to assess the health, condition and structural integrity of the tree in question and if necessary, we may instruct the landowner to carry out works.
Where a landowner fails to carry out the necessary work, we can carry out the works and charge the landowner (under the Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1976).
