If you are on a low income, local council tax support could help you to pay your council tax bill - you do not have to be unemployed, or unable to work to be eligible.
To be eligible, you must be:
- Responsible for paying a council tax bill in Lichfield District.
- Must live in the property where you pay council tax.
- If you are of pension age, you must not have more than £16,000 savings
- If you are of working age, you must not have more than £6,000 savings.
- Not be living with/paying board to a close relative.
- If you are from outside of the UK, you must not have 'no recourse to public funds' on your immigration status.
If you are entitled to support, we'll discount your council tax bill. If your bill is not entirely discounted, you will still have to pay the remaining balance over the course of the financial year (April to March each year). We'll set out how much you need to pay in your council tax bill.
Depending on your age, your claim will either be assessed under our working-age scheme or government set pension-age scheme.
