Lichfield District Council is promoting a host of parking measures to benefit motorists visiting the city over the festive season and beyond.

There will be free parking in The Friary Multistorey Car Park this Saturday, 16 December and Sunday 17 December, and Saturday 23 December and Sunday 24 December.

The car park at District Council House in Frog Lane will be open to the public seven days a week from Saturday 16 December, providing an additional 58 spaces. A further 75 spaces will be available at the weekends only, via the temporary car park on the former garage site off Birmingham Road. This car park is accessed via the District Council House entrance.

These will provide additional city centre parking for Christmas shoppers and beyond, in preparation for the demolition of the old Debenhams multi-storey car park on Birmingham Road in early 2024.

Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for High Streets and Visitor Economy, Councillor Janice Silvester-Hall, said:

“With so much to attract visitors to the city, the pubs, restaurants, heritage buildings and shops, we want to make parking as easy and convenient for people as possible.

“This includes providing additional car parking spaces and making the multi storey car park free to use over the next two weekends which we hope will help visitors enjoy the city centre.”
