You will need to express an interest if you are organising an event on public land, the city/district streets, or in a district council owned park, and your event will:
- be open to the public and likely to attract more than 500 people at any one time during the advertised opening hours.
- involve one or more consented activity (street trading, alcohol or entertainment) or may require a formal road closure.
You will also need to submit an event management plan, prepare a risk assessment and apply for relevant licences, to ensure you have the right measures in place to protect the health, safety and welfare of anyone working at or attending the event.
As part of the expression of interest process, we will let you know whether your event can benefit from subsidised street trading fees.
We recommend you do not not make any firm arrangements or take bookings until your expression of interest is accepted.
You do not need to submit an expression of interest if you are organising:
- a community street party for national celebrations or play streets - please apply for a road closure instead.
- an event on private land or in a private building - you may still need a licence(s) - read our 'do I need a licence' guide to find out more.
